ABSTRACT

Background
Patient recommendation is a key indicator of satisfaction in aesthetic surgery. For gluteal fat grafting, commonly referred to as the Brazilian butt lift (BBL), patient recommendation may reflect satisfaction with appearance, psychological well being, and the overall surgical experience.

Despite the increasing practice of buttock lift procedures in Africa, global data on patient recommendation remains limited. This study was conducted as a pioneering effort to evaluate patient reports on their likelihood of recommending this procedure to others.

Objective
To assess the likelihood that patients who underwent autologous gluteal fat grafting (AFG) in Nairobi would recommend the procedure to others who may be interested. The study also aimed to identify factors likely to influence this decision.

Design
This was a multicenter prospective cohort Patient Reported Outcome (PRO) survey conducted in Nairobi, Kenya.

Setting
The study was carried out in four private medical facilities located within Nairobi, Kenya.

Subjects / Participants
Forty seven eligible participants were selected using consecutive non random sampling and recruited during consultative clinic visits over a period of seven months. Most participants were women who presented requesting buttock enhancement surgery for the first time and were considered suitable surgical candidates.

Participants who met the selection criteria were followed up for six months. After this period, an assessment of patient experience and their likelihood to recommend the procedure to others was conducted.

Evaluation tools included the BODY-Q™ for buttocks and a five point Likert scale questionnaire. These tools were used to assess aesthetic outcomes, psychosexual outcomes, quality of life, and the likelihood of recommending the procedure to others seeking similar services in Nairobi, Kenya.

Spearman’s correlation was used for the analysis of ordinal data.

Results
A total of 90.2 percent of participants reported that they were likely to recommend the procedure to others.

Positive correlations were observed with satisfaction in skin appearance (r = 0.407), psychosexual life (r = 0.460), and quality of life (r = 0.525).

Conclusion
The high recommendation rates suggest strong psychosexual and aesthetic benefits associated with the buttock lift procedure.
