ABSTRACT
Overview
Juvenile Dermatomyositis (JDM) is a rare systemic autoimmune inflammatory muscle disorder and vasculopathy that affects children. The condition primarily affects skeletal muscles and the skin, often resulting in complications such as poor wound healing.
Soft tissue defects around the knee in children present a reconstructive challenge due to the limited availability of local tissue and the functional importance of maintaining joint mobility.
Case Presentation
We present the case of a 9 year old boy diagnosed with Juvenile Dermatomyositis who developed a persistent wound on the anterior aspect of the knee.
Management
The patient was successfully managed surgically using a perforator flap based on the descending genicular artery to achieve wound coverage and preserve knee function.
